Outdoor Activities
We understand that young people place huge emphasis on having fun and we are there to make sure this happens!
We understand that a young person places a huge emphasis on having fun and we are there to make sure this happens. In order to make young people feel relaxed, happy and able to feel in control, we have an extensive menu of outdoor activities and pursuits they are able to engage in on a regular basis. It is vital to channel their interests productively and provide an outlet for them as they continue to cope with living away from their usual home environment.
We listen to the young people and their suggestions and will always incorporate their wishes into our menu if we deem it to be safe and appropriate. We acknowledge that having a varied leisure programme will improve social skills, increase confidence and self-esteem, widen their social network and circle, allow them to feel liberated, and open them up to new experiences and challenged – potentially engaging in activities they may have never tried before.
Our menu of activities and pursuits include:
- Go-karting
- Swimming
- Theatre trips
- Concerts
- Walking
- Seaside
- Ice-skating
- Cinema trips
- Ten-pin bowling
- Football matches
It is not an exhaustive list and is always being added to.
Whilst they are at the home, we try and make sure they incorporate a physical activity element into their daily routine. Our large garden has space to offer several activities, such as:
- Football
- Basketball
- Giant outdoor board games, such as Connect Four and Kerplunk
- Tennis, volleyball and badminton
- Kicking Croquet
- Scavenger hunts
- Flower beds, where the young people can grow their own plants and flowers
- Bird or insect watch
